Cultural Identity Programs

  • LA Power Trips
    • These trips develop students’ understanding of their Latinidad (how they identify themselves through various lenses and layers of the Latinx community) within the cultural context of USC and Los Angeles.
    • Build informal social opportunities for cultural exchanges and peer engagement.
    • At the completion of the LA Power Trip students will be able to identify between 3 and 5 services within the cultural community (e.g. America Tropical, Homeboy Industries, CARECEN, CHIRLA, etc). They will be able to explain the reasons why these community resources exists and report on how they might utilize these resources in their work at USC.

  • Intersectionality Mixers
    • Create intentional opportunities for intercultural exchanges between the other cultural programs on campus.
    • Create opportunities for students to reflect on their own experiences in dialogue with other groups of students, international students, LGBTQ students within our campus.

  • La Posada Celebration
    • This annual celebration connects students to the broader Latinx community across the Americas and Spain by reenacting the historical and cultural based elements of the Posada celebration.
    • Provide opportunities for students who are not regularly engaged in the Latinx community to gain access to this experience and cultural practice.
    • Provides an opportunity for USC students to give back to the LA Latinx community through actively participating in the annual toy drive.

  • Latinx/Chicanx Graduate Celebration
    • Serves as the culmination event for Latinx/Chicanx students
    • Provides a final opportunity for our community to come together with one another and their families to celebrate their accomplishments in a bilingual, inclusive environment.
